Home and office : Projectors, Rear projection TVs
Projectors that display an image of a computer monitor onto a larger screen are widely used and considered indispensable equipment for conferences. Home theatres have also become popular, with screen sizes larger than wide-screen television providing the enjoyment of a cinema-like atmosphere at home. Rear projection televisions, which are common overseas and compete against the still-expensive plasma or LCD thin panel televisions, share the same principles as projectors. The optical engine of such projection systems is an assembly of precision optical parts. Tamron's technical prowess with "light" forms the core part of these optical engines. image
Precision Optical Parts Form Optical Engine of Projectors
image The LCD type projector -- transmission type and reflection type -- has grown popular in recent years. It operates on the principle of splitting white light emitted by the light source into the three primary colors. The light from the colors -- red (R), green (G), and blue (B) -- passes through an LCD display. The display creates an image like a silhouette, with the light rays of the three colors ultimately combining and projecting the expanded image. The "optical engine" is what we call this projector system that splits white light into the three primary colors and then recombines them. The optical engine requires an extremely high level of manufacturing precision. Tamron has the technical expertise necessary to mass-produce and supply each type of high precision prism for the core of this "optical engine."
Projector Optical System

Projector systems are becoming important not just as data projectors for computers, but also as displays for home theaters and rear projection TVs. In Japan, plasma and large LCD flat panel screen TVs have a large market share. In other countries -- particularly in the USA, there is high demand for rear projection TVs for requiring only an equivalent installation space for a flat panel screen. low maintenance costs and keeping price per screen size low. The appearance of new devices such as the LCOS, which is brighter than existing LCD devices, promises strong growth of projector systems.
