Skill Development Attaching Importance to Practical Workability
Education for new employees
Education for new employees
Education at Tamron At Tamron, we pursue many possibilities by supplying our customers with eyes for industry. All of our new employees receive business training designed to help them reach their potential capacity and further enrich it, while observing and respecting congeniality and individuality. Our skill development includes OJT (on-the-job training) courses prepared for differing job categories, specialized educational courses designed to educate on the basic theories in each field, and courses to provide basic education for nurturing newcomers as future candidates for managers and specialists. In addition, Tamron provides multi-faceted educational programs including courses designed to train groups of employees at a variety of levels as well as job rotation programs for middle management employees.

Boosting Retention of Junior Staff Members
Number of consults provided by the consulting office About 30% of new employees who are recent graduates quit their first jobs within three years. At Tamron, however, we strive hard to bring this turnover down to 13%. Of the 119 recent graduates who joined Tamron during the five years from 2002 to 2006, only 12 left, which means we exceeded our target with only approximately 10% leaving. We accomplished this by enhancing our work environment and improving our systems for handling human affairs. One example is our establishment of a consultation office for new graduates, for listening to them and advising them. We also have accelerated promotion where we select employees who are ready for early promotion, enabling us to provide opportunities for junior
staff. Opportunities to learn to coach are provided to experienced staff members in order to prevent them from leaving too.

Maintaining A Safe and Healthy Work Environment
In order to ensure proper management of a safe and healthy work environment, Tamron works hard to prevent occupational accidents, establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, in compliance with related laws and regulations as well as Tamron’s own work regulations.

Specifically, Tamron enacted Safety & Health Management Regulations, established our Safety & Health Committee, and created our Occupational Safety & Health Patrol Program in order to ensure occupational safety and health management. In addition, opportunities to take training courses for cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid treatment for injuries, including those from fire, are provided to employees every year in order to address and minimize disaster.

There were two occupational accidents in 2006 and two in 2005. As for accidents while commuting, we achieved our zero accident goal for the first time in 2006, as targeted at the beginning of the year.

Interview with Employee
Yuri Kajiwara Three years have passed since I came to Tamron. When I first arrived, I immediately felt that Tamron provided an atmosphere with comfortable contact with other
employees. I still clearly remember the friendly atmosphere of group work with fellow members who joined in the same year. I was impressed with the training program that was designed very well, enabling us to participate and create something by ourselves, while enjoying working with fellow members. I could enrich my communications skills while reviewing situations I was put in. I'm confident that the associations I established with fellow members is of great help in my present job.
