Efforts to Save Energy and Resources
Tamron is saving energy and resources by equipping offices and assembly lines with
facilities to save electricity and water as well as through using improved energy saving
system diagnostics. |

Electric Power Consumption
In 2006, electric power consumption
volume increased at Omiya Head Office,
where a new metal mold factory was
built, and Tamron Optical (Foshan),
where beefing up production was
required. As a result, group consumption
volume rose 12% year on year, but the
total per-work-hour consumption unit
was improved by about 0.5 kw. We will
continue to work on measures to reduce
electricity consumption at Omiya
Headquarters and Tamron Optical
(Foshan) where consumption continued
to rise in 2006. |

Water Consumption
In 2006, water consumption rose at
Omiya Head Office, Hirosaki Factory, and
Tamron Optical (Foshan). As Namioka
Factory and Owani Factory successfully
reduced water usage though, group
consumption declined by 3% compared
to 2005. Total consumption is still
on the rise in work-per-hour units.
Countermeasures at Tamron Optical
(Foshan), where consumption sharply
rose along with the production capacity
increase, and Namioka Factory, which
is consuming water in relatively larger
volume, are pressing needs. |

Major Efforts in 2006
In 2006, we asked specialized institutions to diagnose the energy saving systems
at Namioka Factory and Omiya Head Office in order to fundamentally review energy
saving measures. As a result, it was confirmed that there is plenty of scope for
saving energy further and reducing contract costs by enhancing the efficiency of
manufacturing facilities and air conditioning systems as well as by standardizing
consumption quantities. In 2007 and beyond, we will work on enhancing efficiency by
closely monitoring electricity consumption volume at facilities as well as operating
conditions, in order to reduce energy consumption volume further. In addition to those
approaches to improve operational efficiency of facilities, we will continue to switch
from conventional belt-conveyer-based assembly lines to flexible assembly lines
based on the so-called cell system, while positively promoting power economizing
such as managing air-conditioning at certain set temperatures and switching the
lights off during the lunch break. |

From 2007, Omiya Head Office will be treated as a 2nd class energy management
specified factory under the provisions of the Law on Rationalization of Energy
Consumption (Energy Saving Law). As a result, Tamron will be supposed to work
on countermeasures to reduce the energy consumption per-work-hour unit by 1%
annually on average at both Omiya Head Office and Namioka Factory under the
provisions of the Energy Saving Law. This includes periodically submitting reports on
energy consumption volume (fuel and electricity). Periodical submission of reports
on the amounts of greenhouse effect gas emissions is also required under the Law
Related to Promotion of Countermeasures against Global Warming. As compliance
is important, Tamron will continue to work on reducing energy consumption and
achieving our environmental objectives and targets, striving to prevent global
warming.
