Major DfE Accomplishments
In 2006, we pursued DfE (designs for environment) through fundamental material review, efforts to shorten production lead-time, component unitization, and LCA (life cycle assessment). We will continue to develop high quality products that are environmentally friendly.

Comparison of 395YA, 195YA, A18 and A061

Interview with a subcommittee member

Kazuyoshi Hirai The optical performance of the 195YA model is highly regarded by our customers. Therefore, in designing the new 395YA model, my task was to renew the barrel design while maintaining optical system performance. Pursuing DfE presented a number of constraints. As a result of repeated trial and error, we reduced weight and saved energy in manufacturing through employing injection molded plastic parts in lieu of metallic parts as key components. By introducing an iris that can be replaced as a unit when repairing, work improvement was made too. Durability was also increased for a longer service life.
