The Law called "Management Methods
for Controlling Pollution by Electronic
Information Products"was enforced in
March 2007 to regulate the use of harmful
substances in electronic devices. The law
governs electronic devices, facilities, and
even metallic molds for manufacturing such
devices
The initial phase of the law enforced in
March requires listing harmful substances
contained in products and their components
as well as recycling of packaging materials.
The implementation schedule for the 2nd
phase has not yet been stated, but the 2nd
phase regulations will prohibit the use of
specific harmful substances in products
that are listed in priority management
lists. We at Tamron continued to work on
information collection and countermeasures
in cooperation with Tamron Optical (Foshan),
and starting from March 2007 put markings
on products as required by the law.

Tamron Optical (Foshan) continued to work
on reducing chemical drugs and recycling
under its environmental objectives and
targets. In lens polishing processes, the
amount of methanol use was specifically
set for each lens material to ensure only the
minimum necessary methanol consumption.
As a result, methanol consumption at the
factory was reduced by 41.9% compared to
2005. The factory also introduced facilities
for collecting DC-8 (waste solvent) and
recycling usable solvent, resulting in the
factory collecting a total amount of 14,000
liters of waste solvent with cost reduction
worth 45,000 US dollars. |

Foshan City regularly gives honorable
recognition to companies that demonstrate
good management levels for business and
the environment such as contaminated
waste reduction, scenery improvement both
on and off the premises of factories and
offices, and rational resource use. Tamron
Optical Foshan (TOF) worked to enlarge
green zones on and off of its premises by
planting a number of trees and controlling
emissions of harmful substances through
effective resource use. TOF was recognized
as Foshan City's Model Company of
Environmental Protection in 2006. |
